A Warm Welcome

We welcome children of all abilities and backgrounds, boys and girls, from 6 to 17 in our youth coaching programme. Hurley is a friendly and laid back club with an emphasis on making the learning of cricket enjoyable and safe. Hurley Cricket Club has been identified as a Focus Club by Berkshire Cricket in recognition of the club's work, putting in place a structured and safe youth cricket programme and work towards Clubmark status.  Clubmark is the ECB and Sport England national accreditation scheme that sees to recognise safe, effective and child friendly practices within clubs.

Club Coaches

The club's youth programme is run by 5 coaches who have qualified for or are working towards ECB Level 2 Coach Award. The coaches are a combination of parents of some of the colts and players from Hurley's senior teams.  The focus of the coaches' programme is running training sessions to improve the cricketing skills of young children in a safe and fun environment.

Youth Teams Matches and Training

In 2010, the club will be running 3 teams (U11, U15 and U17) in the Berkshire Youth League.   The club is also starting an U9s section and aims to fulfil some friendly fixtures during the season. 2010 Colts fixtures

Training starts the 3rd week in April and times are as below:

Kit, Personal Protection and Insurance

The colts membership fee includes colts being able to make use of bats, protective equipment and helmets with faceguards. Helmets with faceguards must be worn when batting and also standing up to the stumps keeping wicket against a hard cricket ball unless the club has written consent from a parent/guardian that their youngster may be exempted from this rule.  Colts are asked to take care of equipment loaned to them by the club and parents and guardians should be aware that Hurley Cricket Club is not insured for any item of personal equipment which is lost or stolen.

Health and Safety

The nets can only be used when there is a coach present to supervise, otherwise they will be locked. However, they will be open at weekends, to be used , whilst matches are taking place. NO SPIKES SHOULD BE WORN IN THE NETS. A cricket helmet MUST be worn when batting or wicket keeping with a hard ball. ONLY soft balls should be used when coaches are not present, particularly on practice nights in the outfield. Please do not leave your child unsupervised before/after nets or matches.

Other protection such as gloves, pads and an abdomen protector (box) WITH THE CORRECT SUPPORT, should also be worn with a hard ball. Thigh pads are a further option.

Membership

The membership fee for 2010 for colts is £25.00 and this includes outdoor training and coaching, equipment loan and any match fees for colts games. Where appropriate, colts are encouraged to play for the senior teams at the weekend – here match fees are £3 per game.
